Multiplayer is Dead – But Also Alive
Official GameSpy servers shut down in 2014. Out of the box, the server browser shows nothing. However – the community revived multiplayer via BF2Hub. You’ll need to manually download and run the BF2Hub client (or use the bf2hub_fix). Once patched, you can join 50+ active servers (mostly Wake Island, Karkand, and Dragon Valley). ElAmigos does not include this fix – you add it yourself. That’s fair, as it’s a third-party project.
No Widescreen/FOV Fix Pre-Applied
On a 1080p or 1440p monitor, the game launches in 4:3 stretched or letterboxed. You’ll need to edit Video.con (in Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles) or use a tool like BF2 Widescreen Fix. v1.41 vs v1.50
ElAmigos chose 1.41, which is smart: 1.50 introduced a memory leak, broke some single-player bot pathfinding, and added a broken widescreen implementation. But 1.50 also added Highway Tampa and Operation Blue Pearl maps. You won’t get those here. If you want them, you’ll need to patch up manually – and risk instability.
