Yawcam offers several ways to view your camera. To use it as a standard IP camera, we focus on the Stream feature.

Problem: “No image, black screen.” Fix: In Windows 10 Privacy Settings, enable “Camera access” for apps. Also, close any other app using the camera (Zoom, Teams).
Problem: “HTTP stream works locally but not on phone via 4G.” Fix: Your ISP uses CGNAT. You cannot port forward. Use Tailscale or try Yawcam’s built-in UDP Hole Punching? (Spoiler: it rarely worked). Use ngrok HTTP tunnel instead.
Problem: “Motion detection triggers 100 times per minute.” Fix: Increase sensitivity threshold to 4-5% and enable Min time between triggers (5 seconds). Draw mask to exclude flickering lights. Yawcam offers several ways to view your camera
Problem: “CPU usage at 100%.” Fix: Reduce resolution to 320x240, enable Save images only on motion (not stream), and close Java console window.

Unlike Wyze or Eufy, Yawcam had no native mobile app. Remote access required manual port forwarding, dynamic DNS (DDNS), or a VPN. For non-technical users in 2021, this was a dealbreaker. Most consumers expected an app that “just works” remotely.
