Before downloading any firmware, you must confirm that your device runs on the XW (sometimes written as "Xw") chipset. Ubiquiti has three major legacy architectures:

Note: Do not flash this firmware on LiteStation M2 (XM) or any AC device.
You downloaded the wrong file. XM firmware will brick XW devices. Immediately reflash via TFTP with correct XW.v5.5.6.bin. Before downloading any firmware, you must confirm that
In the Ubiquiti ecosystem, the suffixes XM and XW are critical. They refer to the specific hardware revision of the radio board inside the device. XW represents a later hardware revision (often associated with the NanoStation M5 and M3) that utilizes a different RF architecture and memory layout compared to the older XM boards.
Because of these hardware differences, firmware cross-compatibility is strictly prohibited. Attempting to flash XM.v5.5.6 onto an XW device will typically result in a "Bad Firmware" error or, in worst-case scenarios, a bricked unit requiring TFTP recovery. Users must verify their device’s board revision (usually printed on the label or visible in the device’s "Main" tab under "Board Info") before proceeding. Devices using XW
