You need to know where to put the file. Note: The game uses two different folder names depending on the version.

Fix: A 100% save file saves the previous owner's controller layout. Go to Options > Controls > Reset to Defaults. Remap your keyboard (Arrow keys for tricks, WASD for movement) or plug in an Xbox/PlayStation controller.

The PC version of THAW is notorious for save corruption when transferring files between different "builds" or cracked versions.

Inside the main game directory, look for a folder called Save. Not Saved Games—just Save.

There are two primary trusted sources for PC save files.

If you are using the CD version on modern Windows (10/11), the game may struggle to write to the Documents folder.
