Title: Maintenance Log: SIDEMODCOM Failure

System: Rack Unit 4 / Blade Server AX-7 Component: SIDEMODCOM (Side-Modular Communication Bus)

Issue Reported: At 03:14 UTC, the SIDEMODCOM bus lost arbitration between the primary RAID controller and the side-mounted SSD cache module. The system logged a "Bus Contention Error" followed by a kernel panic. sidemodcom

Root Cause Analysis: The side-module connector (J402) exhibited thermal expansion gaps, causing intermittent grounding. This disrupted the differential signaling pairs used for sideband communication.

Resolution:

Status: Operational.

The "Com" element isn't a chat. Instead, it’s a state flag system. A moderator can raise a flag on any queued item with four options: Title: Maintenance Log: SIDEMODCOM Failure System: Rack Unit

These flags are ephemeral; they disappear after 48 hours or once the item is resolved. This prevents clogging the database.

Many critical systems in manufacturing, healthcare, and government run on older hardware that cannot be easily replaced. Sidemodcom offers a lifeline: a bridge module connects to legacy buses (ISA, VME, CompactPCI) while presenting a modern sidemodcom interface to new accelerators. This extends the life of million-dollar equipment by another decade. Status: Operational

Sidemodcom is not a solution in search of a problem. It addresses real-world pain points across multiple industries.
