Released in late 2023, the original Descent (often called Descent 1 by fans) was a surprise hit. The premise was deceptively simple:
Dr. Aris Thorne, a brilliant but reckless nanotechnologist, invents a “Quantum Lattice Reducer.” During a lab accident involving her rival (and ex-girlfriend), Captain Sasha Vancroft, the device detonates. The result: A city block is “sunk” into a sub-dimensional state where everything is reduced to 1/100th of its size. Dr. Thorne finds herself a mere half-inch tall in her own overgrown laboratory, while Sasha remains normal-sized—and is now hunting her through a labyrinth of colossal everyday objects.
