This is a known issue with older x264 encodes that used a buggy version of the codec’s 10-bit color profile. Your player (especially smart TVs) doesn’t support 10-bit x264.
The x264 encoder is the industry standard for high-definition content at a reasonable file size. For Scrubs, which aired from 2001-2010, here’s what x264 delivers:
A "working" file should not be named just episode1.mkv. Look for:
Scrubs.S01E01.My.First.Day.1080p.WEB-DL.x264.AC3.5.1-MKVcannon.mkv
