Lightroom presets are stored in specific directories (Users/[Name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/ on Windows or ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/ on Mac). Over time, these folders bloat. A portable setup keeps the RNI presets self-contained on an external drive, ensuring your main C: drive remains lean for OS performance.
Note: Because Adobe does not officially support true "portable" versions of their software, most workflows involve a licensed Lightroom/Photoshop installation that accesses a portable library of presets stored externally. We focus here on the presets being portable.
Issue: "Profile Missing" appears in Lightroom.
Fix: Ensure the CameraProfiles folder (containing DCP files) is in the same root as the Local Adjustment Presets. Portable apps lose addressing; use relative paths like .\RNI_Pro\Profiles. Lightroom presets are stored in specific directories (
Issue: The film grain looks different on a host PC vs. your laptop. Fix: RNI’s grain is resolution-dependent. In portable mode, ensure "Enhance Details" is off. Stick to the "Subtle Grain" variants.
Issue: Photoshop portable crashes when applying a 3D LUT. Fix: The LUT might be too large (rare). Convert the 33x CUBE files to 17x CUBE using a LUT converter. RNI 5 Pro includes optimized "Performance" LUTs for exactly this reason—use those in portable workflows. ⚠️ If missing
Best for: Street Photography, Nature Superia shifts greens to a minty-teal and blues to deep cyan. It increases micro-contrast. Perfect for rainy cities or dense forests where digital sensors look too sterile.
