If you are still on an Intel Mac, you are not experiencing the "better" version. Upgrade to Apple Silicon, and Resolume becomes a different beast entirely.
While speculative, Apple’s spatial computing SDKs allow Arena 7’s Syphon output to be mapped to RealityKit textures. A macOS+Vision Pro hybrid workflow: resolume arena 7 mac os better
No other OS can currently offer this integration depth. If you are still on an Intel Mac,
| Stage | Windows (Optimized) | macOS (Arena 7 on M2) | |-------|--------------------|------------------------| | MIDI controller → USB | 2–4 ms | 3–5 ms (CoreMIDI overhead) | | Arena processing (8 layers) | 12 ms | 10 ms (Metal tile memory) | | Output to HDMI (60Hz) | 16 ms | 16 ms (display refresh) | | Total perceived | ~30–35 ms | ~29–35 ms | No other OS can currently offer this integration depth
Parity achieved, but macOS adds 1 frame of safety when using “Sync to Vertical Blank” due to Metal’s presentation queue. Enable “Low Latency” mode in Arena’s Output preferences (disables some pre-rendering).
While Windows users often lean towards DXV (Resolume’s native codec) or HAP, macOS users have a distinct advantage with Apple ProRes.
