Rangeen Kahaniya - Lehenga Chunri -... May 2026
In the heart of every South Asian wardrobe lies not just clothing, but a repository of stories. Among these, the Lehenga (the flowing skirt) and the Chunri (the veil or dupatta) hold a special place. When we speak of "Rangeen Kahaniya" (Colorful Stories), we aren't just talking about vibrant hues. We are narrating centuries of tradition, love, celebration, and artistry.
From the rustic fairs of Rajasthan to the high-fashion runways of Delhi and Lahore, the duo of Lehenga and Chunri has remained timeless. Whether it is a bride’s first glimpse of her future or a dancer’s twirl at a garba night, these colorful stories are written in every pleat and every bandhani dot.

Today, designers are "upcycling" old Chunris. Imagine a 50-year-old Bandhej dupatta, faded but still fragrant with ittar (perfume), being stitched into a modern crop-top Lehenga set. The story is preserved; only the silhouette changes.

Originating from Gujarat and Rajasthan, Bandhani involves tying millions of tiny knots on unsuspecting fabric before dyeing it. When the knots are opened, a pattern of dots (bhungra) emerges. A Lehenga Chunri set in Bandhani tells a story of patience. The most prized colors are "Ratan Chakkar" (jewel circle) and "Shikargah" (hunting scene).
