At the end of Version 0.11, Jack had just discovered that the missing persons case he was hired for (a wealthy architect’s daughter) is intertwined with a human trafficking ring operating out of a seemingly legitimate art gallery. Furthermore, his ex-partner, Tommy "Two-Shoes" Grimaldi, was revealed to be on the take.
Version 0.12 picks up immediately after this revelation. The new chapters force Jack into a corner. He cannot trust the police, and his only allies are women with their own agendas. The "secret desires" theme is most prominent here: you will have to decide whether to seduce the art gallery owner for access to her private server room or blackmail her using the evidence you have.
The writing in Version 0.12 stands out because it avoids the "harem trap." You cannot romance everyone without consequences. In one scene, choosing to spend the night with Lila leads to Detective Rios discovering you at the scene of a crime the next morning, permanently locking you out of the police tip line. One criticism of earlier versions (0.9 and 0.10) was that the investigation segments were too linear. Version 0.12 addresses this with the Evidence Cross-Analysis system.
For example, you might find a cigarette butt at a crime scene and a membership card to a private club later. In previous versions, these were separate. Now, you can drag the cigarette onto the membership card to deduce that the club is the only place that sells that specific brand of imported tobacco.
