The unit has two rear USB inputs (often extended via cables to a glove box). These are standard Type A female to proprietary Pioneer connector. Do not cut these; they are data lines. Replacement cables are available online.
Your Metra adapter has a yellow wire (constant) and a red wire (ignition). You connect them to Pioneer yellow and red. The GM adapter’s orange/white (dash dimmer) connects to Pioneer orange/white. This is why the universal color code works.
