Maplestory V146 Official

The result: Party compositions shifted from "Mage/Thief only" to including at least one Warrior for the "Rage" buff and tanking mechanics.

There are several "old-school" servers that specifically host v146 or v144.

The Good:

The Bad:

  • AFK Star Gazing: A "chairs" event where sitting in a specific map for 10 minutes gave EXP coupons.
  • Star Planet Integration: v146 was one of the first patches to heavily push the "Star Planet" mini-games (One Card, Match Cards) for cosmetic rewards.
  • Date: [Current Date] Game: MapleStory (GMS / MSEA) Version: v146 – Unlimited / Hyper Evolution maplestory v146

If you played MapleStory between 2013 and 2014, you remember the whiplash. We weren't in the "pre-Big Bang" era anymore (RIP Pig Beach), but we also weren't in the modern "Level 300 / 6th Job" slog yet. We were in the Golden Age of Chaos: Version 146.

I recently spun up a v146 server to scratch that itch, and the moment I heard the login theme for Zero and saw the old-school UI, the muscle memory kicked in. Here is why v146 was the last great "hardcore" version of MapleStory. The Bad:

The headline feature of v146 was the Warrior rebalancing. Prior to this patch, Thieves (Night Lord/Night Walker) and Mages (Luminous/Ice Lightning) dominated the damage charts. v146 attempted to bring the sword-and-board classes back into relevance.
