The episode opens not with Lara, but with a flashback. We see a young Cem (played brilliantly by a new child actor in the updated cut) watching his mother being taken away by police. This backstory, previously only hinted at, is now laid bare: Cem’s obsessive need for control stems from childhood helplessness.
