The Edit Log in TallyPrime serves as a digital audit trail. It records every modification made to a voucher after its initial creation. This includes changes to the date, ledger accounts, amounts, and even the deletion of entries.
For auditors and business owners, this feature is indispensable. It ensures that the "Audit Trail" is maintained, a requirement that has gained significant legal weight due to amendments in the Companies (Accounts) Rules, 2014. The Edit Log prevents malpractice by ensuring that no change goes unnoticed. It answers critical questions: Who changed the entry? When was it changed? What was the original value versus the new value?
This is the #1 reason. Tally Prime records changes only if you explicitly turn on the audit.
To ensure you always have a trustworthy edit log, follow these rules:
At the Audit & Edit Log screen (before selecting Vouchers or Masters), press F2 (Date).
