But if you really want to stare into the abyss, you need to read Berserk. Kentaro Miura’s art is unmatched in the industry. The "Golden Age" arc is required reading for any adult anime fan. Just know going in: it is brutal, philosophical, and unfinished (but still worth the journey).

The chibi faces sell it. It is laugh-out-loud hilarious. When you finish, read The Dangers in My Heart. Why it’s popular: It is what Western superhero fans love (Marvel/DC) mixed with Japanese school drama. In a world where 80% of the population has superpowers ("Quirks"), Izuku Midoriya is born Quirkless. His idol, All Might, passes his power down to him. Izuku attends U.A. High School to learn how to be a hero. Anime vs. Manga: The anime is currently in its final season arc. The manga has just ended (Volume 42). This is the perfect time to binge the anime, then read the last arc in the manga if you cannot wait for the animated finale.
