The chapter’s climax occurs inside the "Couple Cabin"—a simulated apartment where Jiro and Akari must live for 48 hours on camera. Picking up immediately from the events of the
Akari, usually the aggressor, breaks down. She admits she saw Jiro and Shiori holding hands. She admits she cried for three hours afterwards. But then, she drops the exclusive bombshell dialogue:
Akari: “I lied on the application form, Jiro. I didn’t pick you because I lost a bet. I picked you because... walking home from school one day in first year, you let a stray cat cross the street before you. I watched you wait for ten minutes.
