Note: A full ECU design pinout must document not just the pin number, but also the electrical characteristics (voltage range, impedance, drive current).

You haven’t finished the design until you validate. Build a "pinout test jig" – a simple PCB or breadboard that:

Run through a checklist:

Document the test results directly into your pinout spreadsheet. This is the hallmark of a professional-grade design.

You can reassign any internal driver to any physical pin via software. For example, if you need 8 injector outputs but only 4 ignition outputs, you remap the pin functions. ecu+design+pinout+full

The harness translates the ECU pinout into physical connections. Use twisted pairs for CAN and crank sensors. Shield analog inputs (e.g., knock sensor) with a drain wire grounded at the ECU end only. Ensure wire gauge matches current: 0.35 mm² for signals, 2.5 mm² for injectors, >5 mm² for main power.

An ECU pinout refers to the function of each electrical pin within the ECU’s connector. A full pinout includes every terminal—power, ground, inputs, outputs, and communication lines.

Below is a representative pinout grouping common signals. Connector pin numbers will vary by manufacturer; treat this as a template to adapt.

Power management & sensors

Analog sensor inputs (ADC)

Digital inputs & frequency

Ignition & injector outputs
