Ullu Orig...: Devrani Jethani Aur Woh Part 2 -2023-

It would be irresponsible to review this film without addressing the elephant in the room: the exploitation of female sexuality for male gaze. Devrani Jethani Aur Woh Part 2 does nothing to elevate the female characters beyond their physicality. While it tries to sell a "female bonding" climax, the preceding 35 minutes are filled with gratuitous close-ups and scenarios designed purely for titillation.

Critics have pointed out that the series equates "boldness" with nudity, rather than with nuanced writing. However, fans argue that the platform delivers exactly what its target audience pays for—escapism that is neither subtle nor apologetic.

Act One: The Uneasy Truce "Part 2" opens with a sizzling morning-after scene. The Devrani is shy; the Jethani is smug. But the "Woh" is nowhere to be found. The first ten minutes establish a new status quo: the two women are no longer enemies but co-conspirators.

However, Ullu’s writers smartly avoid a simple "throuple" storyline. Instead, they introduce jealousy. The Jethani feels she is losing control of the game to the younger Devrani. The plot thickens when the village Mukhiya (chief) discovers a piece of jewelry left behind in the hayloft.

Act Two: Blackmail and Betrayal The middle act of Devrani Jethani Aur Woh Part 2 shifts from pure erotica to erotic-thriller. A new male character enters—the Kaka (uncle), a lecherous old man who threatens to reveal their secret to the village elders. The "Woh" must now choose sides.

This is where the 2023 version improves upon the original. There is actual plot tension. The love scenes are no longer gratuitous; they are leveraged for information and power. The Devrani uses seduction to get the blackmail letter back, while the Jethani uses sheer dominance to intimidate the witness. Devrani Jethani Aur Woh Part 2 -2023- Ullu Orig...

Act Three: The Climax Twist Without giving away the final five minutes, the ending sets up a potential Part 3. The husband returns unexpectedly. But he is not the fool he appeared to be in the first film. The final shot reveals that the husband has been watching everything via a hidden camera. "Woh" isn't a servant—he is the husband’s hired actor. The game, it seems, has just begun.

Within 72 hours of its release on the Ullu App, the show trended on Twitter and Reddit’s r/IndianWebSeries. Here is why:

For the uninitiated, the title translates roughly to "The Younger Brother’s Wife, The Elder Brother’s Wife, and That Person." In the lexicon of Indian family dramas, Devrani (wife of husband's younger brother) and Jethani (wife of husband's elder brother) share a relationship steeped in tradition, rivalry, and secret solidarity.

The first installment of the series introduced us to a conservative, joint family in a small-town setting. The plot revolved around a clandestine affair that threatened to tear the family apart. However, "Part 1" ended on a cliffhanger, leaving the audience questioning the morality of the protagonist and the mysterious third entity (Woh).

Part 2 (2023) picks up the narrative six months later. The initial dust has settled, but the cracks in the family foundation have widened into chasms. It would be irresponsible to review this film

Spoiler Warning: Key plot points of the 2023 sequel are discussed below.

The sequel opens with Ragini (The Devrani) , played by a well-known Ullu actress (often compared to the platform's regulars like Anupama Prakash or Himanshi Choudhry), attempting to rebuild her life. After being outed for her involvement with a mysterious stranger (Woh) in the first film, she is now ostracized within her own home.

Neha (The Jethani) , the cold, calculating elder sister-in-law, uses this opportunity to seize control of the household finances. The power struggle is no longer just about a man; it is about property, inheritance, and social standing in their mohalla.

The twist in Part 2 arrives via a new character—The Woh turns out to be a ghost from the past. Unlike the first part where the paramour was ambiguous, the sequel reveals that "Woh" is actually a childhood friend of the deceased father of the house. Through a series of flashback scenes (cinematography that is notably sharper than Ullu’s 2020 releases), the audience learns of a secret marriage and a hidden child.

By the climax of the 45-minute episode (approx. runtime 40-48 mins as per Ullu standard), the two women—the Devrani and the Jethani—are forced to team up against an external male antagonist who threatens to reveal their darkest secrets to the entire village. Within 72 hours of its release on the

Here’s my hot take: Devrani Jethani Aur Woh Part 2 is the Fast & Furious of Indian web series. It knows exactly what it is. It doesn’t apologize for the absurdity. And somehow, by the end, you care about these flawed, messy women.

If you’re looking for high art, look elsewhere. But if you want a weekend binge that mixes suspense, saas-bahu energy, and a dash of "did that just happen?"—this one earns its spot on your watchlist.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)
One star for the acting leap, one for the twist, and one for finally giving Devrani a spine.
