Before diving into where to find the manual, let’s discuss why this specific document is essential.

Q: Does this model have Bluetooth?
A: No. The PX-3994A-A predates Bluetooth. Use an FM transmitter or the AUX hack above. Clarion Px-3994a-a Manual

Q: Can I hook up a subwoofer?
A: Yes – use the rear RCA pre-outs. You will need an external amplifier and a subwoofer control knob (not included).

Q: Why does my cassette deck keep reversing direction?
A: This is normal when the unit detects a “non-playable tape” or reaches the end of a side. Press BND to change direction manually.

Q: Is there a remote control for this model?
A: Yes, Clarion made a wireless remote (model RDC-105 or similar), but it is very rare. Universal IR car remotes might work if you have the receiver eye. Document Number: CLR-TS-PX3994AA-001 Revision: 1

Q: The LCD display is dim. Is it dying?
A; Possibly. Try pressing the dimmer button (if equipped) or check the illumination wire (orange/white). Over time, LCD backlights fail – this is not fixable without soldering.

If you cannot find the manual immediately, you do not need to wait. Based on reverse-engineered schematics of the Clarion PX series, here is the standard pinout for the 16-pin main power/speaker connector.

Note: Verify physically before connecting. If your unit has a 14-pin connector, stop and search for the specific variant. [Optical Pickup] → RF Amp → LA9241 Servo

| Pin # | Wire Color | Function | Voltage/Impedance | | :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- | | 1 | Orange / White | Illumination (Dimmer) | 12V (when lights on) | | 2 | Gray / Black | Front Right Speaker (-) | N/A | | 3 | White / Black | Front Left Speaker (-) | N/A | | 4 | Violet | Rear Right Speaker (+) | N/A | | 5 | Yellow | Memory (Constant 12V) | +12V (Battery Direct) | | 6 | Black | Ground (Chassis) | Negative | | 7 | Red | Accessory (Switched 12V) | +12V (Ignition) | | 8 | Blue / White | Amplifier Remote Turn-On | +12V (300mA max) | | 9 | N/A | N/A (Not used) | N/A | | 10 | Gray | Front Right Speaker (+) | 4-8 Ohms | | 11 | White | Front Left Speaker (+) | 4-8 Ohms | | 12 | Violet / Black | Rear Right Speaker (-) | N/A | | 13 | Green | Rear Left Speaker (+) | 4-8 Ohms | | 14 | Green / Black | Rear Left Speaker (-) | N/A | | 15 | N/A | N/A (Not used) | N/A | | 16 | Blue | Power Antenna | +12V (when tuner active) |

Critical Warning: Do not connect the Orange/White dimmer wire to ground. If your vehicle lacks a dimmer circuit, cap this wire with electrical tape. Connecting it to ground will blow the internal illumination fuse (which is soldered onto the board—a nightmare to replace).

If you are reading this manual because your unit is failing, consider upgrading. However, many vintage car enthusiasts keep the PX-3994A-A for its authentic cassette deck and simple interface. Replacement parts (like the detachable faceplate or wiring harness) are occasionally on eBay. Search "Clarion PX-3994A-A faceplate" or "Clarion 16-pin harness".
