1PON refers to a configuration within Passive Optical Network technology that utilizes a single port. PON itself is a fiber-optic network that reaches the user directly or through a very short extension. It's termed "passive" because it doesn't require any electrical power to function; instead, it uses passive splitters to divide the signal among different users.
